About fifteen years ago, the Umm al-Fahm Art Gallery began building a unique collection of contemporary Palestinian art, based on a dedicated study conducted by Dr. Ismail Nashif and curator Farid Abu Shakra.

In the initial stage, representative works by the founding generation of Palestinian art were acquired, including artists from Israel, the Palestinian Authority, and the diaspora. Later, following the recommendations of the acquisitions committee, the collection was expanded to include works from the mid-generation, gender-focused works, and pieces by young artists.

Following the official recognition of the gallery as a museum by the Ministry of Culture, a new exhibition is now opening, presenting a rich selection of Palestinian artists residing in Israel, representing various generations and regions, among them Walid Abu Shakra, Asad Azi, Khader Washah, Fatma Abu Rumi, and others.

With each new exhibition cycle, pieces from the museum’s permanent collection will be displayed, reflecting its vision — to serve as a home for Palestinian art, while also featuring Israeli and international art.
