Belfast-born Raymond Watson will exhibit his audio art in Umm el-Fahem Art Gallery.

The audio soundscape was conceived and recorded by Raymond Watson while he was on a 4 week artist residency based in the Umm el-Fahem Gallery, 2018 – 2019. During this residency period he traveled extensively in Israel and the West Bank and recorded numerous sounds of everyday life. These sounds ranged from bus journeys, markets, religious calls, military orders and creaking turn-styles of checkpoints.

Raymond said, ‘While I traveled, I recorded everything. I then brought the sounds to Ireland, where I creatively mixed them into an audio based journey.

He added, ‘Listeners should close their eyes, open their mind and allow the audio to enter their imagination and to take them on a journey, onboard the magic carpet of sound.’

Raymond Watson is well known for his conflict resolution and peace art, which he has presented in many international centers.

Raymond Watson works with a broad range of materials. His strategy is always to creatively discover the best medium to present an idea – using contemporary or traditional art. He has produced audio-visual installations, audio, sculptures, paintings and a wide range of art in community projects.
