Artists: Tsibi Geva, Maria Saleh Mahameed – Habiballah

The home of Sellah Mahameed’s family is buried deep in the Mahameed neighborhood, surrounded by a stone courtyard that was designed and maintained by the artist’s hand of Sellah, the paterfamilias. Sellah Mahameed’s family is a multilingual and multicultural one. His wife, Ludmila, came here from Ukraine; Sellah is a native of Umm el-Fahem. The couple has three children—Farid, Maria, and Taufik. Their home environment invites all who enter to engage in language, representation, and narratives.

In this house, Maria Saleh Mahameed-Habiballah, the middle daughter of the family, and Tsibi Geva exhibit next to each other. Their works embody a dialogue and an encounter between different generations and population sectors, relating to questions of localism and affording a new contemplation of the space that we inhabit.
